Spotlight on Security Awareness and Training

Published: October 3, 2024

As part of the University of Toronto’s Information Security strategy, work is underway on several initiatives to enhance the digital experience of our community by creating more secure and trustworthy environments. This month, we’re highlighting one such initiative.

The Security Awareness and Training Program is on a mission to create a culture of security at the University. By equipping our community with essential security knowledge and practices, we can collectively safeguard ourselves and the University from information security threats.

So far, 13,000 faculty, librarians and staff at U of T have joined the program, with approximately 5,700 individuals completing the learning modules. These numbers are impressive, but we know we can do even better!

The program thrives on community engagement and has successfully leveraged champions within the U of T community to actively promote security awareness. We need your help to keep this momentum going! Champion this program among your peers, share its importance, encourage more people to join and help boost training completion rates.

Together, let’s continue to build a secure and resilient environment. Your participation makes all the difference!

“What the team at U of T has done with their Security Awareness Training program is exceptional and the results stand out among all sectors and not just higher education. The U of T approach has resulted in an average click rate that’s 22 per cent lower than our education index and a reporting rate for suspicious emails that is 314 per cent higher and well above our recommended target of 51 per cent.  We believe in the incredible positive potential of people and the work done by U of T shows the results we strive to achieve.”
