Update your Duo Mobile app by March 31

Duo, the provider of the Duo Mobile app used for UTORMFA, is introducing a security update that requires users to run a newer version of the app. As a result, some Duo Mobile users at the University of Toronto will need to update their app to continue using Duo Push for multi-factor authentication.

What’s changing

Starting March 31, Duo Mobile app users must be running version 4.85.0 or later in order to continue using Duo Push login requests. If your app is not updated by this date, these features will no longer work. However, users will still be able to open the app and generate passcodes to login.

Required action

To avoid disruption, the U of T community is encouraged to check their Duo Mobile app version and update it as soon as possible if necessary. However, Duo Mobile typically updates automatically through the iOS App Store or Google Play Store on supported mobile OS versions.

Unsupported mobile OS versions will not be able to update Duo Mobile to the latest version. As a result, over the coming weeks, the Information Security team will contact those who have been identified as using a device that does not support an updated version of the Duo Mobile app to provide guidance and next steps.

Upcoming reminders

Starting Jan. 26, U of T Duo Mobile users with outdated app versions will see in-app warnings during authentication, prompting them to update Duo Mobile.
